ITPSA held its first Congress about Raw Materials and Petfood

Last 25th and 26th of November ITPSA held in Sitges (Barcelona) its first Symposium about Raw Material and Petfood attended by professionals from different parts of Spain and Portugal and the four Area Managers of the subsidiaries of ITPSA in Uruguay, Brazil, Central America and China, as well as staff of commercial, technical, production departments and laboratory of ITPSA headquarters.
In total, 60 participants attended to this congress. They came from fat and meat meal producers, petfood manufacturers and specialists related to the sector of petfood (nutritionists and veterinarians mainly).
The conferences began with the presentation of ITPSA by Mr. Pau Brufau, General Manager of ITPSA, which led to the technical talks by Ms. Marta Puig (Coordinator of the Technical Committee ANAGRASA (National Association of processing industries fats and Animal By-Products) who spoke about the management of animal by-products (SANDACH) and oxidation problems. On behalf of ITPSA the talks were conducted by Mr. Jean Claude Jacquet (Technical Manager Petfood in ITPSA) Mr. Felio Calafat (ITPSA Commercial Director), Mr. Enric Balselles (Director of Production in ITPSA) and Ms. Ana Alcaraz (lab technician in ITPSA), who spoke on the antioxidation in the Petfood, including design of good antioxidant, efficiency and control, sampling and interpretation of analytical results.
The second day was introduced by Mr. Felio Calafat, which led to Dr. Cecilia Villaverde (Diplomate of ACVN and ECVCN) with her conference “Different nutritional uses of fatty acids in dogs and cats”.
The following talks dealt with the importance of Water Activity on Petfood, including variables that influence this parameter and control that is set in the Render and the Petfood, mentioning also the process of drying, wetting and preservatives.
