Last May, Dr. Ruben Rivera, livestock market of the Laboratory AVI-MEX (Mexico) and mycotoxins technical specialist, visited with members of ITPSA Uruguay Colonia Valdense areas, Cardal, San Javier and San Ramon, in addition to the experimental and laboratory facilities of the Faculty of Veterinary UdelaR. During his visit, Dr. Rivera was able to verify the status of the business premises of dairy farmers in these regions, using the occasion to deliver a series of technical talks on mycotoxins and mycotoxicoses in cattle. In the field visits Dr. Rivera was accompanied by Uruguayan producers and technicians, with whom he shared the critical points and risk of mycotoxins as well as strategies to decrease the prevalence of this problem in the food and the impact on the animal and milk. Dr. Rivera also made reference to the methods of sampling and testing for various mycotoxins. After his presentation, attendees were able to make a round of questions to Dr. Rivera. Organizing this meeting with a world-renowned expert such as Dr. Rivera, Uruguay ITPSA continues to demonstrate its interest in controlling the serious problems posed by mycotoxins in cattle and its significant impact on consumption.
